Here is a recent painting.

I tried to balance the poetry of line and unfinishedness with the more refined face and finished areas. Excitement of possibility and beauty in refinement.

New Workshop!

I'm excited to offer a week long Oil Portrait Painting Workshop in Victoria BC this August!
Here are the details.

Oil Portrait Painting Workshop
August 19th to 23rd!
Please register by August 10th.
5 Days, 10:00am to 4:30pm each day.

In this week long workshop Noah will show you how he goes about painting a portrait in oil. 
Working from a live clothed model, he will discuss and show his approach to colour while working with a layered method of painting.

He will talk and demonstrate how to see and record shapes clearly and simply, and model form by carefully observing the properties of light. 

Noah will teach the use of plumb lines, comparative measurement, and tilt angle to find correct proportions.

Each morning Noah will demonstrate from 10-12.
There will be a 30 minute break for lunch and then the students will paint on their work until 4:30pm 


Lots of demos and individual instruction!
Some drawing experience recommended.

Cost $525 includes model fees and GST

June Figure Drawing Classes

I'm teaching two figure drawing classes this June.  A Block-In Class starting June 13th. and a Long Pose Class starting June 18th.

Figure Drawing Block-In!
June 13th to July 4th

Thursday evenings 6:30-9:30pm

Class demo

 The focus of the block-in is to find proportion and articulate the contour and major shadow shapes. The goal is not to finish the shading but to really work on proportion and shape by working on a new block-in each class.

I will teach the use of plumb lines, comparative measurement, and tilt angle to find correct proportions. Working from a live model, you will work on a new drawing each session.

All levels of experience welcome
This is a good class to complement my Tuesday afternoon long pose figure class!

I will teach the block-in, tilt angles, comparative measurement, plumb lines, inside block-in, and modeling form both with an optical and conceptual understanding.

You will work on one 4 week drawing over the class

Landscape workshop!

I'm offering a two day landscape workshop in Victoria May 25th and 26th.  The focus of the workshop will be working on small studies from life with oils. Students can also draw if they choose.  I will draw on my time as a Hudson River Fellow in NY and share my thoughts and approach to landscape painting and drawing!
